How to make Sweet Potato Toast

A few days ago I came across a post somewhere on social media suggesting that sweet potatoes would make a great avocado toast substitute. And not as a topping, as the ACTUAL TOAST. I couldn’t find any instruction on how to make this elusive new toast, so I started experimenting. What I discovered is that sweet potato toast is a really easy way to pack fiber and fantastic nutrition into your breakfast, lunch, snack or any time of the day. Here’s my version of how to make sweet potato toast, feel free to adapt it to suit your own preferences.

Take a small to medium sweet potato and slice off one edge so it can lay flat as you slice. It’s way too easy to let the knife slip if you leave the rounded edges.

Carefully slice approximately 1/4 inch slices, about 1/2 the width of my thumbnail.

Toast for 5-8 minutes depending on how chewy you like your sweet potato. (I prefer it a little on the softer side so I ran it through 2 toast cycles which turned out to be about 8 minutes) I have a toaster oven, not a pop-up toaster so I’m not sure how the cook time would differ or if it might get stuck. Be cautious!

3 slices are about the equivalent of one regular slice of bread- they weighed around 3 ounces raw (approximately 80 calories)

Top with whatever makes you happy 🙂

Good morning! Do you put the sweet potato directly on the rack, or do you use a pan?

Hi Yvonne, put the sweet potato directly on the rack just like toast 🙂

I just put it directly on the rack and toasted it until I achieved the right texture. Good luck!
