Disclosure: I’ve partnered with the General Mills Bell Institute of Health & Nutrition to bring you this blog! I was compensated for my time, all opinions are my own.

Valentine’s Day is a time for sweets, treats and romance. We typically think of flowers, chocolate and cards as standard gifts, yet most of what we consume is filled with sugar, food dyes and very little nutritional value. Remember those teeth-cracking candy hearts with “Be Mine” written on them? The good news is that enjoying tasty treats to celebrate this romantic holiday is possible without wreaking havoc on your healthy lifestyle.

Fiber is one nutrient notably missing from V-day sweets. Good thing Fiber One offers delicious, fiber-packed, lower sugar brownies and baked bars to enjoy as a snack or dessert. Each bar contains 5 grams of fiber and only 7-8 grams of sugar, and several flavors are perfect add-ins to your Valentine’s Day menu, especially if you get a little creative.

This Chocolate Cherry Yogurt Cup is packed with protein, fiber and anthocyanins (antioxidants that some research associations suggest may help protect blood vessels against heart disease).

Simply add defrosted cherries to a cup of Yoplait Greek 100 Protein yogurt and top with a diced Fiber One Brownie Bar. It’s a breakfast or snack that tastes like dessert!

Other ideas include adding a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt between two Fiber One Brownies or Baked Bars and cut into quarters to make fiber-packed ice cream sandwich bites. Or, feature a Fiber One Brownie as the base for a Valentine’s Day “Nice Cream” Sundae by topping it with blended frozen bananas, sprinkled with chocolate chips and diced strawberries. Bonus fiber contributed by the fruit 🙂

I asked my fellow registered dietitian nutritionists to share their favorite fiber-filled Valentine’s Day treats. All of the following recipes provide fiber derived from whole food sources including fruit, beans, nuts, avocado and whole grains. Good luck choosing!
