3 Healthier New Year’s Eve Cocktails
Everyone loves a good party, and what better reason to toast with family and friends than New Year’s Eve? Those looking to control the calories and sugars in their alcoholic beverages are often challenged when it comes to pitchers of margaritas, daiquiris, Cosmos and other martinis. These options are usually packed with sweet syrups and can often contain several hundred calories per drink.
Champagne (or dry sparkling wine) is your best calorie bet at about 90 calories per 4oz serving. For a festive add-in, pomegranate seeds offer a delicious boost of flavor, antioxidants and fiber. I’ve created 3 patriotic, healthier New Year’s Eve cocktails to help you celebrate this or any other holiday such as Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, you name it. This trio of red, white and blue cocktails is so pretty and offers a variety of lower calorie, lower sugar boozy options for you and your guests, whatever the occasion.
Smart drinking tips:
-If several drinks are in your evening party plan, make sure to spread them out and have a full glass of water in between each cocktail. Make sure to eat as well, especially if you are diabetic. Symptoms of hypoglycemia can be confused with intoxication. Have a friend or family member make sure to keep an eye out just to be safe.
-If higher volume, lower calories is your goal, make spritzers by adding sparkling water or seltzer to your champagne/wine to increase the volume without increasing calories and sugars.
