Red Dress Awards – Woman’s Day Magazine

I LOVE my job! On nights like this, I’m thankful for all of the opportunities I’ve been given to learn, share and grow as a dietitian. On February 9th, I was invited to attend the Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards 2016 held in The Appel Room in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall sponsored by CocoaVia. As a long-time advocate of heart health for women, and an annual promoter of Go Red For Women and American Heart Month, this was a dream come true. Three of my four grandparents passed away from heart disease, some from causes that are much more easily treated today. Simply attending the event where the editors of Woman’s Day Magazine have chosen deserving recipients who have made a significant contribution to the fight against heart disease, would have been exciting enough. The folks at CocoVia had more in store…

Prior to the awards, I was picked up and driven to Drybar at Le Parker Meridien where I met up with fellow RDs and guests for a bit of pampering and a glamorous hairstyle fit for the red carpet. We enjoyed very tasty treats including delicious CocoaVia hot chocolate and mocktails incorporating their cocoa and fruity flavors which contain heart healthy flavanols.

Upon arriving at the awards, we were treated to a delicious cocktail hour filled with a variety of hors d’oeuvres, trendy dishes like beet and orange salad, farro with fall ratatouille and dim sum, and the most refreshing Rosa Regale sparkling red. That is definitely my new favorite! I met up with several other RD friends to enjoy the vibrant scene. Literally EVERYTHING was red including the décor, clothing and even the lighting. Hence, our red hue in many of the photos. The view of the city was spectacular and the mood was set for the entertainment to come.

Hoda Kotb from the Today Show served as the award show host, she’s so funny and charming. Each of the evening’s honorees have done so much to advance the fight against heart disease. It was inspiring to hear their stories. The entertainment was FANTASTIC, beginning with Duwende- an amazing accapella group, followed by Christina Bianco an incredible impressionist, the super talented CraigLewis Band and capped off with The Band Perry who rocked the house.

Registered Dietitian Joy Bauer presented five amazing women she and her team helped to mentor over the past several months to improve their heart health through the “Live Longer and Stronger Challenge”. Together they lost 220 pounds and improved heart markers like blood pressure and cholesterol! Way to inspire, Joy!
