Enjoy frozen dessert guilt-free with these Healthier Chocolate Ice Cream Treats created by registered dietitians.
It’s getting hot out there and National Chocolate Ice Cream Day couldn’t arrive at a better time. I typically don’t eat regular ice cream unless it’s a super special occasion. But who doesn’t love a cold, refreshing sweet dessert when the weather is warm? I reached out to my fellow registered dietitian food bloggers to share their healthier chocolate ice cream treats.
Technically, ice cream is made from, well, ice and cream or milk. According to Merriam-Webster it’s a sweet flavored frozen food containing cream or butterfat and usually eggs. My fellow RDs and I like to shake things up and create more nutritious versions of high fat/high sugar desserts. So, I’ve collected a few new ways for you to enjoy your frozen dessert while benefitting from some added nutrition like fiber and potassium in bananas or protein and probiotics in yogurt.
Many of these recipes are “Nice Cream” or ice cream made from frozen bananas. It’s super easy to make and you don’t need dairy to achieve the creamy consistency. This works really well for those following a vegan lifestyle and benefits everyone looking to up their intake of produce.
