If you are unfamiliar with a fitbit, it’s a wireless wristband you wear 24/7 to track your day and your sleep. As you can see, this dashboard displays my steps, distance, calories burned (not necessarily accurate), and active minutes. You can also log in your specific exercise routine, weight goals, food/calories consumed and water intake. Check your phone or computer throughout the day to see how far you’ve gone. I’ve been known to jog around the house at 10pm in order to reach my 10,000 step daily goal. Can you picture that? Come on, who else does that too?
At night, it acts like a simple sleep study. It will log how many times you are awakened and how many minutes you spend restless. Mine is boring, I sleep like a rock. However, I’ve seen clients with very significant sleep disturbances which should be checked out by a doctor. It’s a pretty good screening tool, though not meant to replace medical advice.
